14-year-old arrested on charge of stealing mom's car

SILVER SPRINGS SHORES - A 14-year-old boy who stole his mother’s car because he wanted to visit his girlfriend was arrested by a sheriff’s deputy and charged with grand theft auto and not having a valid driver’s license, according to a Sheriff’s Office report.

The teen’s mother told Deputy Clifford Whiteside early Tuesday that she had gone into her son’s bedroom to check on him when she noticed he wasn’t there and the window was open. She said she checked her purse and also noticed the keys missing to her 2005 Nissan Altima.

Leaving the residence, in the 7000 block of Midway Terrace, the deputy said he saw the vehicle in the 6800 block. After checking the license plate, the deputy stopped the vehicle.

The boy was arrested and transported to the Juvenile Assessment Center.
