Police beat for Oct. 6, 2008

Ocala - An Ocala man was arrested on drug charges Saturday after a traffic stop on U.S. 441.

A Marion County sheriff's deputy pulled over Leroy Epps, 62, for speeding. The deputy saw a brown paper bag on the passenger seat of Epps' vehicle and asked Epps to turn off his car, according to the Sheriff's Office report. Instead Epps sped away.

The deputy stopped Epps again a mile down the road, after Epps threw the paper bag out his car window. It had cocaine residue in it, the report said.

Epps was taken to the Marion County Jail and charged with felony drug possession, possession of drug paraphernalia, tampering with evidence and felony fleeing.

Ocala - Marion County sheriff's officials arrested an Ocala man Saturday after he allegedly threatened to kill a man with his shotgun.

Robert Ward Krul, 59, reportedly was drinking at his home with some company at about 8 p.m. Saturday. Krul grabbed a shotgun from his bedroom and threatened to shoot a 64-year-old man, who was visiting Krul's roommate, if he did not leave, according to the Sheriff's Office report.

Ward's roommate, Candace Finnie, called police, and Krul returned the shotgun to his room, the report states.

Krul was arrested and charged with aggravated assault and taken to the Marion County Jail.
